Rene Jose Martinez or usually called JR Martines, was born on June 14, 1983 is an American actress, motivational speaker and former US army. Since 2008, he played the role of Brot Monroe on the ABC daytime drama All My Children, and was the winner of season 13 of ABC Dancing with the Stars. The November 1, 2011, chose the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association Martinez as Grand Marshal in 2012 Rose Parade.

In 2003, Martinez suffered severe burns on 40 percent of his body while serving as an infantryman in the U.S. Army in Iraq. After his recovery, he travelled the country speaking about their experiences for businesses, veterans groups, schools and other organizations.

Military career
In September 2002, Martinez joined the U.S. Army and underwent basic and advanced training at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he developed skills as an 11B (infantry). Having traveled to Fort Campbell in January 2003, was assigned to Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division.

In February 2003 he was sent to Iraq. Two months later, Martinez was a strong Humvee when the left front tire hit a landmine and he suffered from breathing smoke and serious burns on 40 percent of his body. It 'was evacuated to Landstuhl, Germany, immediate treatment and transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center (baMca) in San Antonio, Texas. He spent 34 months baMca, and has undergone 33 cosmetic surgery and skin-grafting.

Motivational speaking
While studying the recovery, a nurse asked him to speak to burn the patient, who had just seen his body for the first time and had become withdrawn. After about 45 minutes, the patient visit has opened the curtain to let the light in his room. JR then realized that it had this effect on the patient and decided to use his experience to help others, visiting a number of patients in the hospital, to share his story and listening to them.

He called it a wide range of groups, including large companies, veterans, non-profit organizations and schools, and shared the stage with the likes of global self-help guru Tony Robbins and evangelist Dave thief. Work in the Burn Survivor Society
Martinez began supporting fellow burn survivors, while being treated for burns at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Phoenix for burn survivors. The first time I attended the Phoenix burning World Congress in 2008, and was guest speaker at the 2010 World Congress of the recording. Martinez had another burn survivor, Jenna Bullen, attend a taping of "Dancing with the Stars" as its host and has recorded a public service announcement on behalf of the Phoenix Society for burn survivors.
